Hi Ralf. My German's not so good, but it sounds like your experiences were very similar to mine. People telling you "use Google" or "RTFM" and all you find on Google are 50 people *asking* the same question, with no answers, and the manual skips the part about your problem. Then as soon as you find a concise reference, someone on the list or IRC tells you it's obsolete! Besides that, it was several months after I bought my new laptop before its soundcard model was cracked by some ALSA developers.
I threw everything I had into trying to set up a rt Linux kernel, and the thing that ultimately worked for me was one guy's notes... I'll see if I can find it. I tried Ubuntu Studio, 64studio, AGNULA, and in the end came back to Debian. I should probably refresh my memory myself, because I'm relying on my current configuration files and scripts, and no longer remember everything... Anyway, don't let me lure you back into the quicksand; sometimes one does need a break from Linux setup. I removed Linux from my hard drive entirely several times, in order to get anything done or get any sleep.
