Spoken words are not at all uncommon in songs, so I think there is a reasonable case for the facility. I would not like to see it on percussion if that means there will always be some kind of sound implied by the note. My program handles percussion as well as melody (though does not yet import it from abc). An indicator in the file header may be better, although existing files won't have it, of course.
