Formatting is not the solution but an easy escape to the problem, learn to use the system in a more updated manner. Use good antivirus if you can afford to pay for the subscription or use freeware antivirus and keep an eye on latest development and freeware issues to prevent attacks. Grab tricks and tweaks to protect your system from known issues, do not try just anything but trusted software. Before downloading and installing check the reviews of the software.
