Yes, me too (Centrino but single core) and also the problem with Edgy. I've compiled a new kernel and then it can shutdown and reboot. I think, it has something to do with the kernel. 2.6.17-10-generic. By the way, I've used suspend2 in the newer kernel.
I think, it will be solved in the next release since it will use a newer kernel. Hopefully they will use suspend2 also.
