Adriane You most likely don't have to concern yourself with "wipe all traces" or "format the drives" since your problems are not the mere existence of those files on the disk. At the most, the very most, you can Uninstall CS4 but it shouldn't be necessary to go much beyond that (I'm not sure whether an uninstall will delete preview files.) "How to save these projects?" When you load a CS4 project into CS5 and the new project file is created, saving that new project file is all the saving you need. The assets they use can be left on the disk just as they were for CS4. I'm not sure about "collect & save all assets", somehow I think that is for a special situation that most people don't need. Lee, yes they are 3rd-party: Red Giant,Magic Bullet. I had not thought of a possible problem with the 32 vs 64-bit issue- didn't even enter my mind that plug-ins would be version-dependent. Do you know if that is indeed true?
I was attempting to export the CS4 project thru Encore when the hang/freeze-up kept happening. I tried that because if you recall, i couldn't get the project to load right in CS5 because of the missing plug-ins. So- to sum up: there are 3 relatively small finished CS4 projects that we cannot seem to get out of the computer. I'd like to try to save as a data disk-that's why i tried to export as AVI. Thought it'd be straightforward (opposed to encoding as Mpeg)but of course it isn't! I recently tried to export as mpeg & it came out 1 time with no audio, the 2nd try had sound but just stuttered when played in a dvd player.i then gave up on encoding & just wanted a straight avi file of the timeline w/effects- foiled again! Does anyone know how I can save these projects? not even necessarily for future re-editing). I had looked into a possible option a short time back- something like "collect & save all assets" -can't recall the correct name. It also froze, and when i mentioned it on this group no one seemed to have anything to say on that. hmmm... the plan now is to (once we can save those 3 projects) wipe all traces of CS4,delete all files related to the CS4 projects (format the drives maybe?), and start fresh with CS5. Somehow I think it won't be as easy & painless as that. ugghhhh....
