Dang, I want to put the thing in the basement TV room where my antenna signal is and then be able to view it upstairs. Roamio and mini were good for that. But I don’t want to reinvest in that brand.

They do give you the option of signing up for a free account if you don't want to subscribe to Sling. The biggest problem I see with it, is that you can't pause and rewind live tv... you can start recording something and then go watch the recorded program to be able to pause and rewind, but that's a bit of a pain. They do have another box, the AirTV Player (which is basically an Android TV box with a USB tuner that plugs into it), that does let you pause and rewind live TV, but it only works for one TV, and you need to have an antenna connected to it. You do need a USB hard drive for dvr functions, since it doesn't have one built in. Sling has a deal going right now for a free one if you prepay for 3 months of service (which is only $75).
