"illegal" on its own doesn't mean anything except perhaps to identify you as a racist. It isn't even english. She's illegal? He's an illegal? Not english. Alien has a specific legal meaning - i.e a non-citizen resident. Could be documented or undocumented. illegal Alien has historically been used, and the term doesn't personally bother me, but I'd say its in bad form since racists started calling people "illegals"
