Former Alaskan here:
Take care, little Texas. We're rooting for you!

The gas thing is nuts. Lines at the gas stations into the night around
here. The size of the storm and affected area was huge, bigger than a lot
of north eastern states or even a couple combined. I don't think people
realize just how big Texas really is unless they have spent time here. I
really don't think a lot of people outside of TX have a grasp on the scale
of this thing. And, yes there are some crooks, but the vast majority of
people heading that way are going to help. I saw ad's for people looking to
buy boats and jet skis just so they could go help. Guys in by 4x4 clubs
with lifted trucks were submitting air intake heights to see if their
vehicles would pass the high water so they could go help. It's pretty
amazing how many people are putting in an effort. Our office is being used
to stock supplies of all kinds as my Ops Mgr's son and friends are heading
down to Aransas Co next week. Keep in mind, it is a 5 hr drive at highway
speeds in light traffic for me to get to Houston from where I live in Fort
Worth, 7hrs to Corpus, 10 hrs to Brownsville (when the roads are open and
clear). It's not exactly down the road.
