The Shakers practiced celibacy and went extinct. The Amish reject birth control and forbid abortion and are the fastest growing population in the US. Evolution always wins.
There is no widely accepted evidence for extraterrestrial life. It's not like we aren't looking, like with SETI. But YouTube conspiracy videos are propaganda, not evidence. The more you hear something, the more true it becomes. That's how our brains work. I think there is a high probability that Earth is the only one of the 10^24 planets in the observable universe with intelligent life (meaning capable of creating and learning languages) or any life at all, for two reasons. First, abiogenesis must be extremely rare because we have not been able to reproduce it in a lab. The closest we have come is self replicating RNA strands with about 40 bases. Life requires an energy source and a means of copying and mutating the instructions for its construction, which is extremely unlikely to get started from a random mix of atoms. Second, the multiverse theory says that there are an infinite number of finite universes and that we necessarily observe one where it is possible for life to evolve. This explains the masses of the proton, neutron, and electron and various physical constants like h, G, and c. If they were different, stars wouldn't form, or wouldn't synthesize elements that form complex molecules and scatter them by supernovas to form planets. Any probability distribution over an enumeration of a countably infinite set of finite elements (like N) must favor simpler descriptions. By that I mean for any element with nonzero probability, there must be a finite set with either higher probability or lower complexity and an infinite set of more complex elements with lower probability. This is why Occam's razor and algorithmic induction hold. The math requires it. Algorithmic complexity depends on the precision of the physical constants but not on physical size. Occam's razor therefore favors a larger universe with less precision and lower probability per planet of life. This not only explains why the universe is so big, but makes it highly probable that it extends far beyond the 10^24 planets (10^12 galaxies x 10^11 stars per galaxy x 10 planets per star) within our event horizon, and we are still the only planet with life. This theory can be tested. The observable universe has a mass of 10^53 Kg. It has a Schwartzchild radius close to the Hubble radius, 13.8 billion light years. An observer falling into a black hole will observe the event horizon appear to wrap around due to gravitational lensing and see other objects accelerate away in all directions due to gravity. This is exactly what we observe, except that there should be a small opening somewhere looking directly away. We haven't found it yet. But I suggest looking at the CMB cold spot behind the Eridanus void. -- Matt Mahoney, [email protected] On Mon, Apr 27, 2026, 6:39 AM John Rose via AGI <[email protected]> wrote: > On Friday, April 24, 2026, at 2:30 PM, Matt Mahoney wrote: > > I didn't see the videos.
