At present, they are not trying to compete with the Google search engine. :) They only search in Wikipedia, using this as a basis to test their Natural Language front-end. A better test would be to ask a complex question, where you know the answer is in Wikipedia, and see if they answer the question better than a Google search of Wikipedia only.
