Someone else has also helpfully informed me via email that making a
symlink like this is a bit of a dodgy thing to do.  Seems the Slackware
maintainers need a poking. :)  (Now you see why I said to keep your
current include files...)

If you do a "depmod -ae", what symbols does it say are unresolved? 
(A dump of the output from that command might help someone, I hope.)
