Hi, I have done some more investigating myself and it occured to me that maybe the problem is the effects applied to the sound.
I downloaded the emu-tools from http://sourceforge.net/projects/emu10k1 and popped the OSS drivers back in. Then I did an emu-dspmgr --clear to reset all the FX settings. That didn't make a difference, but I just booted into Windows and am playing around with the EAX control panel. By default the Chorus, Reverb and Original Sound effects are always applied and can not be removed. The Original Sound effect here in Windows is at 100% (as it should be) but if I reduce it to 20% the sound volume and the behaviour of the sound sliders (see original mail) is exactly the same as in Linux. So maybe the problem is that the Original Sound effect in Linux is only applied at 20%? As soon as I reboot into Linux I will have to play around with emu-dpsmgr some more to try and figure out if I can somehow change that. I will reply to the list once I tried it out. BTW, alsamixer says that my SB Live has a Cirrus Logic chip, I can't recall the exact model number right now. Later, - Frank ----- Original Message ----- From: "William W.
