Well, thanks to Howard, I was able to try to use Chinook Utils (and HSpeed Utils) to get my IIgs to recognize my hard drive. But when I attempted to start up with the HD turned on, the system couldn't get past the ProDOS initial screen to BASIC(!). If I turned the drive off, I could start up and then turn on the HD. But when I started up either the Chinook Utilities, I could only get to the Verify or the Partitioning initial screen, no further. I could Control-Reset out of this to the main menu for Chinook Utilities, but couldn't get either to see the drive (well, couldn't get Verify or Partitioning past the first part they put up on the upper part of the screen).

It's possible I need a SCSI terminator on the drive (didn't check the back yet to see if the HD has a switch so I can do it without the terminator plug), or the problem could be the SCSI card. When I checked the card, the ROM/EPROM on it has "341-0437A (c) 87" on the label over it, BUT the lower left part of the card (to the left of the pins that go into the slot) has "607-0291-B (c)1986" - so is this a Revision C or a B? I thought the lower left ID number had to end in "C" before the copyright symbol for it to be a "C" card, but the ROM number matches what the FAQ say it should have for the "C" card.

Anyone out there who can resolve the dilemma as to which card I have? In the meantime, I'll check the HD and look for that blasted terminator plug...

Still hoping to get this thing working correctly,

Jim Rohde
