I think you're talking about the term PWR mod, which adds a diode to the back of the Apple Rev. C or HS SCSI cards. I have the .gifs that show how to do that if anyone wants. (the mod is so easy that even _I_ can do it. :) )
You still need a terminator on each end of a SCSI chain--all the mod does is supply the power that the chain needs to be able to recognize that a terminator is there. Powered HD's usually supply this power, but devices like Zip Drives don't.
