Ahh, OK. There is a difference between *checking* for correct
dependencies and *installing* correct dependencies. See below:

$ pacU /var/cache/makepkg/pkg/libarchive-2.2.6-2-i686.pkg.tar.gz
Password:
loading package data... done.
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
checking dependencies... :: pacman-git: requires libarchive>=2.4.0
