maybe somebody could help, if you post the hardware info, chipset, 
Xorg log EE and WW's and the device section of your xorg.conf

also make a backup of your xorg.conf and try making another new one

X -configure

and then try this new config. the new xorg server is quite good in 
configuring itself now (compared to the xfree86 beasts from 10 years 
ago  *smile*).

never give up!  .... but change your strategy (and OS) if you are 
stuck :) ... but once you check out everything, you end up using arch 
anyway... hi hi
