Or a little bit of a variation that works nicely depending on what you are
doing (some times you want a lookup form another table, etc).  Export the
records you are going to update as an .arx file.  All you really need is
field 1, the last modified by user and modified time.  Update the records
(escalations, modify all, etc) then import the last modified by and modified
time back.  Make sure that you have the import tool set to update and not
replace existing records.

In 7.5 the Suppress Filters setting in the import tool makes this work even
better since it does not trigger your Merge filters.  In previous versions I
have just disabled the Merge filters right before the import if possible.
