That will be determined at a future date, depending on how the capability is provided in a future release. While I can make no commitments or forward looking statements that far out, it would not be unreasonable to expect that – for backwards compatibility – the runmacro utility function could continue to exist in some capacity in short-term future versions but that perhaps the creation of new macros using the legacy technology would not be supported.
Again – BMC will be examining the capabilities, not the current technologies, to ensure parity with the business needs provided today. For example, the majority of macros today are used to run reports, and that capability is already provided on the web through the combination of saved searches and ‘My Reports’. If other capabilities currently supplied by macros/runmacro cannot be accomplished through existing technologies and features and they have a high business value, BMC would examine the gaps in capabilities and address them in a future release. -David J. But the actual runmacro command will this go away with tool? Currently, we have an automation that depends on this command to create trouble ticket. If this retires, I will need to write the process with it's replacement or re-engineer. For example, as per the 7.5.00 Release notes: “In Release 7.5.00, the arimportcmd command-line interface is replaced with a Java data import command-line utility. See “Using the BMC Remedy Data Import utility” in the Integration Guide.” Thus, it is expected that the ability to import data into AR System will continue into future releases – most likely through the Java Data Import utility. If you have a concern that a particular capability will be lost, I’d be happy to listen to what capabilities are of concern. Please be sure to ask about the capability, though – not the specific technology. Thanks, -David J. Easter Sr. Product Manager, Enterprise Service Management BMC Software, Inc. What I am reading in Dave's reply is that there will be an industry standard method, other than MidTier reports, that we will be able to use to extract data directly from Access, Excel, Crystal, etc. as needed. It will just not be bundled with the desktop client since a desktop client will no longer exist. It assumes that people only use Remedy for out of the box applications.
