Oak, From the article Mario posted, he pulled out one quote:
"The only person in the administration with any credibiliy..."
Then he followed that with something about "Strawman" which of
course was a recent bone of contention on this board involving both
him and me.
Be fair. Don't pretend you didn't see that in his post.
He was trying to bait me back into an argument of national politics
with the usual personalization of me mixed in.
I'm trying to be respectful of Pete and the rest of you and not take
his bait.
Trying to be respectful of Pete and the rest, so moving on from it.
Regarding foreclosures as an "Asbury issue."
Using that standard, most anything happening in national politics is
an Asbury issue.
But I know the intent of the rule better. Pete is looking for things more
concretely localized.
What is really affecting my life anyway is my inability to gather
myself together over my depression caused by the lights on the
outside of The Berkeley.

It's not always about you, Tom. The ability to spot a Strawman is a useful
skill and shorthand across the board, especially when a debate gets down to
"He said, She said." A few people here found the term handy.

Marks' comment that "For three years she's been saying to everybody, 'It's
the foreclosures, stupid. We have to make the mortgages affordable'" was
directly connected to Oak's thread.

It's powerful phrasing, but it didn't deserve quotes because she never used
those exact words; but soon cyberspace will be littered with sites taking as
gospel that she said that.

To notice such mechanics is not everyone's schtick, but it is mine. I've
spent a lifetime teaching critical research and language skills, so it's
second
nature to me. You have your skills, and I have mine.

The Berkeley lights reference isn't a reference to a recent bone of
contention? It isn't personalizing? It isn't baiting? Are we to pretend that
it's
not all of them? And it is respectful?

Trying not to take the bait? But if it were bait, you did take it? "I come
to bury Caesar, not to praise him." Right.

Google "Asbury Park" and "foreclosures" to see just how concretely localized
it might be. I saw the "80 lis pendens" Jennifer just mentioned.

You know the intent of Pete's rule. You know my motives, what I was trying
. You know the right standard. And you're always right 'cause you're
Justified Right.

Right?

Right.

Moving on.
