I don't condone the atrocities referred to for a moment. But why did India
let things get to where they have gotten?
And talking of atrocities, do insurgents hold the corner in that market?
What is Indian armed forces record? What is the police's record? <<
What's the GOI supposed to do with the gangsters, who fell in the disruptive activities slot? Bend down for ritualistic caning by the "twinkle stars"? No sir, terrorism is not something that can be tackled gingerly. To mollycoddle the terrorists means--to encourage them to short-circuit their killing machine. Is not terrorism against unarmed civilians a crime against humanity? If the movement had been genuine, they would have associated entire citizens, stretched across the length and breadth of Assam, irrespective of their language/religion,in a political dialogue with the GOI.Should not they realise that there are vast number of people, whose wishes and aspirations could be entirely different? Why should they try to force their choices upon the remaining inhabitants of the state?
Now about the "army and police record"------What is the army up against? In J&K and Assam, more than 97% cases of human right violations, filed in the court, were thrown out on the ground of "plain motivations".
India as nation:---Are you talking about Pre-Islamist/pre-British Bharat?Well, there has always been a single nation, united not by any politico-legal means, but by a commonality of culture and philosophy and a general notion of having a shared common identity. That commonality was translated into reality in 1947,when all of them joined together to form the nation.
