Title: Re: [Assam] even if you don't like Hindi films
Rajen:

Not to steal Umesh's thunder, but what Umesh is expressing anguish about is partially accurate, that is the part of the impotency about the system of governance.

Rather than challenging Umesh on this, you, as the experienced, wise and articulate NRA who has lived for decades in a functioning democratic society may consider doing a little role playing scene and explore the effectiveness ( or lack thereof) of the system.

For example, take the role of the victim or the (victim's family), and sparing no effort to find justice, go thru the processes that are available in the system of governance the victim lives in.

Few things to remember:

*** Why the dependence on the Govt.? Because if you don't you will need
to depend on private justice. Lot of people are resorting to
exactly that. You can explain its pros and cons.

*** Why should anyone be harping on justice? Why this fixation
        on vengeance?
It is more than that--it is deterrence, without which more
would surely follow, as the example of fifty years of
                independent India's amply demonstrates.

*** Why should not society's morals be questioned?
It should be. But you cannot use morality or lack of it
as an accepted democratic system tool to hold anyone
accountable. Here the role of religion, ethics, family
values etc. comes in. Is it important? Of course it is.
But you cannot use it as an accepted tool of governance.
It cannot not have uniform or measurable standards and
cannot be applied uniformly or fairly.

Having explored the options in the role playing, tell Umesh what YOUR considered
conclusions are and perhaps even open it up for discussions, questions and answers.

I could have done that myself. But I am biased as all know. So I could be expected to skew the role playing to show the system has degenerated to a state of dysfunctionality and thus needs a complete overhauling. To the patriots that would be equal to asking me to dismantle the Indian Union, which I am sure no one likes to hear about. Besides my morality is 'reative', like 'a liberals' can be expected to be. Only the conservatives - - those who oppose change, have the rights to absolute morality, like Santanu pointed out to Dilip in re: DeLay's
constituents' support for his conservative values.

Wait a minute, maybe that is not a good example . Never mind!

So, my suggestion for you neutral, unbiased and morally upright people to
do the analyses.

Let this be  case for our study.
In this case in your opinion, you see coward people, corrupt people, dishonest people, immoral people  or you see something inherently wrong with the system so that if you replace the present system with some imaginary golden system everything will be OK as being claimed by Chandan repeatedly. If you see something wrong with the system, can you identify specifically what exactly is wrong.

Hollywood based Mundhra's film "Bawandar-the cyclone" - was about a real life, semi-literate NGO female worker ("Sathin") Ms. Bhanwari Devi, who was raped in her village  near Jaipur , after she called police to prevent child marraiges to take place in her village. It was very sad to see my hometown's corrupt police (including police women) and impotent justice and city-smart, fame hungry NGO feminist women leaders -who did nothing for her. I was in Jaipur at that time. He himself is from Rajasthan.

I think one day I might have to do something about it myself.
