I have been trying to build the 0.5 branch using Ubuntu (7.10). When I
run make oldconfig - I get a make failure complaining that implies that
package/config/conf does not exist. Similarly make menuconfig yields a
command not found implying that package/config/mconf does not exist.
The files are indeed present and they are marked as executable.

I can compile using Fedora Core 8. Additionally I can build similar
gumstix projects using both Ubuntu and FC8.

I have looked at length at the installed packages and cannot find the
reason for the problem - does anyone know the reason? I do know that
recent versions of Ubuntu have a link to dash for /bin/sh - but I do not
see calls for that in the Makefile. Maybe I will re-link to bash and
see if the behavior changes, but I am skeptical at best.

Greg
