I don't have trouble with Ubuntu - except in this case. I am building
Gumstix images regularly. Last night I wanted to look at the options in
one of the Makefiles and discovered that the Makefile calls IDENTICALLY
named executables. Those are the same executable names that fail with
"command not found" in the Astlinux branch I was trying to build. I
have checked to see that the files have execute permissions. It is
specific to the stuff I checked out.

Maybe I can steal one of the gumstix executables and see if I get a clue
when I run make...

The problem with the VMWare script was with a recent Ubuntu OS. The
script called for /bin/sh but wanted something specific from bash.
Ubuntu had linked /bin/sh to /bin/dash and the script would fail. I
think that both VMware and Ubuntu can share the blame on that. They
both have made assumptions that were not legitimate.

Fedora 8 definitely works. (most of the stuff should even build on a
64bit host--but not everything yet). If you have problems with VMWare
scripts as well, perhaps something is corrupt on your box? Ubuntu
should work fine. I know Kris and others have used Ubuntu in the past.
I use either CentOS or Fedora, but nothing in the buildroot
environment should be distro specific.

If it looks like some files are missing, why don't you delete your local

svn repository and grab a fresh copy (or do an svn update). You should
do an svn update frequently anyway as changes are constantly being made.
