I too have had problems - mostly with VMWare scripts. I did change the symbolic link to point to bash and it didn't help with the build.
There is something else missing. While I would prefer to use a Debian based Linux OS - I can certainly leave the FC8 virtual machine around. Maybe there is a clue if I open one of the executable files that seem to fail in a hex editor...
