That still flows into the vertical scale, so I suggest using the English "float" word. > The discussion about proper translation of export between me and > Petr imácek was based on the concept, that can be found for example in > Gimp too. > > 1) the saving of project's data > 2) the exporting - to another format - used by other applications, here > MP3, Ogg Vorbis etc. > > He works in radio and says it would is sometimes serious problem for some > people to understand the concept of project files and other formats. :-) Many of our new users have the same problem - you can see it every day on our Forum. But there has never been any consensus about what to do about it. Export is technically more correct. > When I translate it just "Save as...", the people would have problem > to find that function quickly - the first time, ven if they know, it > has to be there (maybe he exagerrates - when the schema for > searching and finding this in menu File seems standard in currently > used GUIs. > The option for that menu item - translate it as "Export as sound/ > Save as sound" - it represents similar problem -> the people, they are > able to accept just "Export...", because they imagine immediately > "Export to MP3, Ogg Vorbis etc) > It's about how quickly they can find, understand and use the Export > function - when it is really translated otherwise than "Export..." - to > national language. I cannot see that giving examples in the menu of some of the formats we export to creates less confusion overall. There will still be those users who want to "save" MP3 and can only find "Save Project" and "Export MP3". There will still be users who want to export AIFF and cannot find it in "Export MP3, Ogg Vorbis, WAV..." and so don't bother to click the menu item. It doesn't change the fact that you shouldn't really take it on yourself to add selected formats into the menu when the English string is just "&Export...". It cannot stay as it is with nonsensical buttons in Plot Spectrum, Labels Editor and Keyboard Preferences. > So the function in Frequency analysis window is understood by > me as "Save as". When saving in plain text I never imagined, that > there would be the need to Export it (even it might be not the > same in this case). > > The "Save as" text can be found in various applications too, I think. > I would prefer localization string "Save as" at that place. It is minor > issue, but it would be perfect. That's a separate issue from Save Project/Export Audio. We only recently changed the "Save..." and "Load..." buttons in Keyboard Preferences to "Export..." and "Import...": http://code.google.com/p/audacity/source/detail?r=11665 There are also other "Export..." buttons (for example for exporting EQ presets) which happen to have a different access key and so don't have the same string as Export in the File Menu. Then if you look in Custom FFmpeg Export, "Save Presets" and "Export Presets" have different meanings and require separate buttons. Unless that changes, you could argue "Save As" elsewhere meaning "Export" was inconsistent. So probably you are not going to get a consensus on changing all the "Export" text or XML file buttons back to "Save...". > You mentioned my update: the file I saw in SVN several minutes ago > was the first one, I've send, with 2310 strings, the updated file has > 2296 strings. I thought I committed the version attached to your second message, thinking that was more up-to-date. But yes I can see updating the committed .po file from the current audacity.pot would remove some obsolete strings. Anyway, I can still find the other attachment or you can merge the updated one with the committed one, just as you wish.
