Like Hewlett-Packard to name one high profile example. Naim audio started similarly, Ivor Tiefenbrun's LP12 turntable started life in his father's engineering company, as a one-off project. In fact many engineering companies start in very humble and low-profile ways, whether they survive and grow is a good way top tell whether the output from the 'shed' had any value.
