The attenuation is via resistors on the analogue outputs - so it's
analogue.  You also have the digital volume control (exactly as per the
SB3) which you set using the remote control or web UI.

Unity gain is a little meaningless unless you say what it's referenced
to.  By definition, the 0db attenuator setting is unity wrt to the
unattenuated analogue output.

If you are using a preamp, you should leave the attenuators at 0db and
fix the digital volume control at 100.  Then use the preamp volume
control.
