I've noticed that even with an external DAC, shutting the display completely off on my stock SB3 has a noticable and positive effect on sound quality to me. For serious listening I usually do this. I would like a setting in slimserver to shut off display after 30 seconds or so...but to allow full brightness whenever browsing or navigating through the menus.
