Ahoy again, About the little side-step in this thread to compression. Compression was invented for radio-broadcasting in AM & shortwave bands. These transmitters output more power when you feed them more audio (amplitude modulation). By compressing the audio the average power-output of the transmitter is way up so less fading etc.
It was later used for the reasons stated in the thread. Most TV commercials are compressed audio too for the same reason (better sales-results). ciao!
