I think it was mentioned in the Stereophile M2 review...


The sample rate flag is embedded in the bitstream and tells the
receiving DAC what sample rate the bitstream is (44.1, 48 etc). Some
transports don't set this to anything as it is NOT needed by most dacs
because they auto-sense the incoming sample rate.

The NAD seems to have some quite sophisticated processing on its
digital inputs...

I'm sure this has cropped up before?
