The current Meridian CD player that is descended from your existing one
is the G06.2. You may find it or the earlier G06 second-hand.

Although the 500 Series and earlier players are very good (the original
MCD still holds its own with cheap modern players), they are impossible
to repair, and in any event, the fact is that the more recent players
sound better. You may also find another 506 if you look around, but
again if it is faulty or becomes so, it's not fixable. The 500 Series
is really quite old now.

The G08.2 (predecessor G08) is an even better player than the G06.2,
with upsampling. However it is also more expensive.

As far as sound quality is concerned, you'll want to listen to a player
before buying it, especially an expensive one.

The 551 only has analogue inputs, but by the same token the analogue
outs on the G Series players, especially the G08.2, are excellent.

I hope this helps.

Best,
Richard E
