Best imaging I've experienced was a cassette of Dave Brubeck's Take Five on a Denon mini system with old KEF bookshelf speakers, in a caravan in Surrey! Absoultely gob-smacking depth contrast between cymbals in foreground and piano in background.
That and several things on Linkwitz Orions...they're like a sonic holodeck sometimes - although perhaps it's something THEY do, rather than the recording, if you get me? Still, impressive. I agree with cliveb, in that perhaps if I were transported back to Surry and the KEFs then they might seem less magical? The minimum standard for me is, sitting off centre I can't place the speakers when someone sings. Not all recordings will do that, mind.
