Steering the other way, I was thinking about used terminology here - "ripping" in particular. It is so deeply rooted in our thinking process that I'm having trouble to find anything else. Should we not use a "dubbing" term instead ? After all we make recording of the record, are we not ? Ripping may be extracting PCM from CD audio data. Correct me if I'm wrong. Guess, anyway it is called, it is what it is, preserving music.
