Do not be too hard on aircraft handicaps just because a pilot does well in a particular aircraft. We buggered up because we turned at 13km on the only day they had a 10km circle and that the first turn point!!!. We went on to do 400km in 4 hours for just 70 points. Our fault for sure.
On another strange one Queensland comps have zero points if you go into airspace before the start whereas in NSW you only loose 100 points!!!! Also we observed one person doing serious cloud flying (like 2 mins in cloud in 7kts up and then coming out the side) - The flarm showed they were there. This happened on several days and on one day this person would have gained and extra 15km over others. I have zero idea who it was but i am afraid it should be looked into as we have the technology. Like flying overweight is is just another form of cheating. I do know Brad Edwards has never flown a comps since another aircraft was allowed to fly over weight and was given no penality. He called it another form of cheating. Ian McPhee ----- Original Message ----- From: nandrews To: 'Discussion of issues relating to Soaring in Australia.' Subject: Re: [Aus-soaring] NSW State Comps Hi Simon I can see that you are trying to spice up this newsgroup. Good try - good on you!!! In all seriousness, Simon, having three ASG 29 in the comp and having all three pilots on the podium is by no means an isolated case. It has happened at various Nationals in Europe and America and is one of many reasons why the ASG 29 is widely regarded as the top ship in 18m class these days. Especially in countries like Australia its spectacular performance in high speed cruise makes the glider attractive. Not even the very best of today's open class ships can stay with it and it doesn't seem to matter whether the aircraft has developed spar bumps or not. But don't take my word for it and talk to Butch. He has just placed his second order for an ASG 29(E) - number sixteen (16) in my sales territory. On another matter, are you coming to the Waikerie coaching week in January? Your confirmation would be appreciated! Kind regards Bernard Eckey FUTURE AVIATION PTY. Congratulations to Graham, Hank and Mac. Adam, the fastest speed of the comp was done by Mac flying an ASG 29. Bernard Eckey FUTURE AVIATION PTY. Sounds like it's either the 'biggest ever...' aus soaring day, or the VENTUS 2CX is just a WICKED glider!! Wonder how many have pulled out of the comp to try for the 1000 or record flights?
