you also could consider using the ElevationReader or its logic.
the map being equivallent to height, you could use the readings and pass them 
to the FaceLink.offset
I mean here that instead of going thru a tedious work, you just need play with 
photoshop 5 minutes to add more height where needed...

another option is use the NormalUVModifier, you would then use multiply, note 
the position of the face, set back and define your offset...
