The ship was confiscated by the U.S. Navy during the Civil War, burned by the Alabama, a Confederate ship, and the seamen were put ashore on the coast of Brazil. From there, he somehow got to the United States, and eventually married a Civil War widow. They were married in New Bedford, Massachusetts. Therefore, there is no parish to explore.
I am going to make a trip to New Bedford to look at old records to see if I can decipher his parents' surnames.
