Don't ask me how but I ended up with Dias as my maiden name from de Souza.

Dear Rick,

Thanks for the comments. I don't know why I didn't see "Dias." It's so
obvious now.

I did not receive any charts. How were they sent? Possibly an email
message never got through to me. I checked my spam folder, but nothing
there.

Anyway, I really look forward to seeing them. Thanks again.

All best,
Nancy

Dear Rick,

Thank you, thank you. Yes, the record is difficult to read, but I've been
poring over it. Looks to me as if Amalia's parents were naturals of Nossa
Senhora da Estrella in Ribeira Grande. [RFP] Yes. I'm so happy to have her
grandparents names, which I had not known. I get the following:

Paternal: Manoel Cabral and Roza Joaquianna (not sure about the last
part)[RFP]Manuel Cabrel & Rosa Joaquina
Maternal: Jose Dinis???? and Roza de Jesus[RFP] Jose Dias & Rosa de Jesus

I'm not sure about "Dinis." I think it's a "D," but if it's a "P" it could
be Paiva. I'll look at it again later and see if it becomes clearer.

The date is giving me difficulty, though. I'm reading fifth day of the
month of February of eighteen hundred and--and here is where I get confused.
It has to be "quarenta" or "cinquenta," but I can't make out a "q" in the
word.. [RFP] Born 5 Feb 1852 Baptized 23 Feb 1852 Your title for the photo
shows the year to be 1847,[RFP] The book starts in 1847 this record was on
the last page which is 1852. but that would make her 26 rather than 25
[RFP] Yes records do have errors at the time of her marriage in 1873.
Could the year possibly be "cincuenta e dois"? Is "fifty" ever spelled that
way? According to her gravestone, she was born in 1852, but that doesn't
mean anything.

Anyway, I'll give it a rest for now and then look at it later. In the
meantime, it's great to have the names (sort of) of my new ggggrandparents.

Thanks again for all your help with this.

Nancy

Here is the Baptism Record of Amelia. It is the record on the left. Not the
best copy but readable.

Dear Rick,

Thank you so much. This is great information! Amalia (or Amelia--she seems
to have used both names in various U.S. records) was obviously older than I
thought she was. I'm so glad that I finally know where she was born. I
can't believe you found this information so quickly. I really appreciate
this.

All best,

Nancy

Hi Nancy

I think you will find this useful the actual record was very hard to read on
the film but I was able to make the connections.

They were married 26 May 1873 in Ribeirinha Santissimo Salvador Church.
Jacinto Vieira age 33, son of Francisco Vieira and Margarida de Jesus
baptized in Santissimo Salvador Parish. Amelia da Estrella age 25, daughter
of Jose Cabrel de Mello and Margarida Rosa also baptized in Santissimo
Salvador. I will try and look up their births tomorrow.
