From your description of your problem, it looks like your niece is using a microsoft 2010 programs. This program does not work under XP. To view a microsoft 2010 program on XP, you need to get the microsoft viewer. With this program you will not be able to update the file, only view. This program is available to download from microsoft web page at no cost to you.

This has happened to me a couple of times and I am not sure how to correct it. My niece sent me an attachment to her email. I am using Windows XP on my main computer. On my laptop I am using Windows 7. It opens in Windows 7 OK but in XP it is just a bunch of small boxes. What do I have to do to get it to open in XP? I tried different encoding but can't seem to find a right one or will I be able to open it in XP? Any and all help appreciated. Remember you are talking to a computer semi-illiterate person here aka an proud senior citizen :-)
Thanks.
