I know this has come up before, but the amount of garbage on this list is by _far_ the worst of any of the many lists I'm on. It's obvious that this list is set to allow non-subscribers to post, which I think in this day and age is just no longer viable.
Yes, I am filtering very aggressivly, including using the character sets for languages I can't read, common spam subjects and several other things (including a filter based on whether or not the sender is in my bbdb). They keep me from having to actually look at most of what's coming in, but at least a couple messages a day get by, and a quick look at my spam catcher mailbox shows that a pretty high percentage of what ends up there (lots) is coming through this list. This from a user whose old email address is on at least hundreds of IETF list archive pages - my spam load is quite considerable. More importantly, I tried to look in the list archive for a discussion I remembered seeing, and the archive is almost useless because so much of it is garbage. Ok, so we've all seen this complaint before (but I couldn't find it in the archive in a reasonable time - see above). I can't imagine why the person(s) running this list have chosen _not_ to make it a subscriber-only list, but if it is because they don't want to do the additional work that making it subscriber-only would add, then here's my offer: If you'll give me the required access, I will manage any subscription-related work, including rejecting postings from non-subscribers. I am an experienced Mailman administrator (I run several lists for various non-profits), and have installed it a few times. I've been using bbdb for several years, and would really like to see it better integrated with lots of other things, but it needs a more functional community to make that happen and this list could be a part of that. If I can contribute by making the list better, I'd like to do that much at least. -- Scott Lawrence Actively seeking work http://skrb.org/scott/ [ <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> is deprecated ] ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: The Definitive IT and Networking Event.
