I second the request to require subscription for posting. A potential workaround for users for now: read the list on gmane.org (http://news.gmane.org/thread.php?group=gmane.emacs.bbdb.user or through news://gmane.org). The spam detection on gmane is pretty good and if you're reading through gnus, you can have it automatically score down detected spam (see the thread starting at http://article.gmane.org/gmane.emacs.gnus.general/51031)
