I also have an 84 trek 620. For some reason Trek changed the fork from 83, crowding the tires. But there are some simple things to do that will help. First, the bike was originally sold with 27" wheels, but you can use 700c wheels with either a traditional canti, like the original dia comps, or an older standard reach sidepull. My Campy Grand sports with a 57 mm reach worked fine. This will give you 4 extra mm of space. I'm not sure if modern dual pivots will work, because they crowd the wheel more. Additionally, the fork crown has a lot of metal below the brake or rack hole. I ground away some metal on the back side of the crown, which is where my sks fenders hit. This allowed me to run a pasella 32mm tire, although I think a 28 would work better. The rear, as you have discovered has plenty of room, but the bridges are not equidistant, so you will need to use some spacers.
This is a great riding and handling frame; it's well worth the extra effort to get the fenders to work. good luck, michael On Dec 12, 1:58 pm, Philip Carlson <[email protected]> wrote: > After rear ending a car and crunching my mid-'80's Centurion > Elite ??, I got an '84 Trek 620 to replace it.
