Here is a link to a set of photos taken while Jonnycycles worked
(Peterwhite supplied) 700 x 60 Berthouds to fit between the rear
chainstays which were just a bit too narrow.

BTW, I also have a restored '82 Trek 728.  I wound up going with SKS
40s as the steel fenders would not fit.  The old Trek touring bikes
are greater riders, but I think at that time fenders were not much a
consideration.
