I was surprised at your "Yea" vote for an amendment to eviscerate the transportation enhancements bill (S.Amdt. 2371 to H.R. 3288 to make the 10 percent set-aside optional). The amendment failed, thankfully, with your colleague Senator Kohl and 58 other Senators opposing. But you voted for this amendment. Why? You and your staff must realize that the majority of enhancement money goes towards bicycle/pedestrian facilities which otherwise would unlikely be funded? Please see the Wisconsin DOT 2008 project list at http://www.dot.wisconsin.gov/localgov/docs/te-grants.pdf for details. I own a car and pay Federal fuel taxes. But I also reduce my carbon footprint and depend on bicycle facilities to get around. (Our family has made lifestyle choices to own only one car and that decision benefits us and our neighbors.) The transportation enhancements projects are very important to me and I am shocked they are not important to you. In general I am very happy with your leadership and representation in the U.S. Senate. I hope you come to realize that this vote was a mistake and you again assert your environmental and transportation leadership on behalf of Wisconsin.
