Dear Group, I once knew a man who was an established large scale farmer as the automobile first came into the picture. He was born not long after the Civil War and graduated college in 1892. His neighbors were all anxious to have the new automobile roads pass right between their houses and their barns so they would no longer have to shovel winter snow. My friend painted the future to them and of the automobile's dominance. They mostly didn't pay heed. And so every berg also acted like Charlie's friends who wanted the roadways between their house and the barn. My berg has the truck traffic make a right angle curve and everybody can listen to the engine breaking a century later than those initial decisions. So, how much longer should bypasses of bergs be put off? Eric tim wong wrote: What a waste of money! For only about ten times more money, they could have eliminated these "wasteful" projects and built a uneeded bypass around a small town, with the additional "benefit" of destroying the commercial district downtown. |
