Greetings: I am very sad to have to report that I have just been informed that a request will be brought forward at the Town of Brighton meeting Tuesday May 3, 2011.
It is on the agenda to rescind all the current permits issued for the 2011 bird watching season and therefore close the wetland to viewing. Gone will be our chance to see the Virginia Rail and family, the Sora and family, the Moorhen and family. Gone will be the chance to watch little puffs of black grow into the magnificence of the parents. Please help us fight this rather questionable action by sending an email directly to Mayor Mark Walas [email protected] and to Gayle Frost CAO [email protected]. If enough of us take action, maybe we can prevent such an action from taking place. I authored the report in 2009 that led to the permit system for 2010. Keith Lee gave generously of his time for 2½ summers to open the wetland to visitors. Keith Lee received a Certificate of Appreciation 2007 from the OFO. I received a Certificate of Appreciation in 2009. That proves the importance of the Brighton Constructed Wetland. I beg the local birdwatchers to contact the Mayor and Councilors (613-475-0670) directly and please, please attend the meeting too. Please let us all do our bit and hopefully it will work. I thank the OFO and each and everyone of you for your help. Most sincerely a rather distraught Maureen Campeau and Keith Lee.
