Does anyone use diotamaceous earth mixed in with grain to help keep down the worm load? If so, could you tell me how much to mix in? We feed our sheep in a community trough, so I can't really control who gets what, but I would like to mix in enough diotamaceous earth to help control parasites. Also, an older ewe we have who has one 8 week old lamb, just became sick two days ago. She had lots of green mucous around her nose and her back legs were trembling. We took her temp., and it was around 102 degrees, which didn't seem too high. She sounded like she was breathing roughly, so I wondered if it was pneumonia. I blended several garlic cloves in water and gave it as a drench two or three times a day, adding grapefruit seed extract the last two times. She seems so much better today- up and about and eating, with just a little green mucous. My thought with the garlic is that it is helpful to fight off a broad spectrum of problems including bacteria, viruses and parasites. Grapefruit seed extract has similiar anti- bacterial, anti-viral and anti-parasite action. So, it seemed worth a try. Does anyone have any ideas on what her malady is or any similiar experiences? Any other suggestions? Thanks.
