If you use DESTDIR approach, you are deviating from the book. If you are deviating from the book it is assumed that you know what you are doing. In case you use the DESTDIR approach, there are specific post-relocation steps that need to be performed. Just using make DESTDIR=<some_dir> install is not enough.
