I built xfce and the instructions were pretty good. I had no problem building.
We do need to mention that the environment variable XDG_CONFIG_DIRS-/etc/xdg needs to be set. startx crashes (with a message) without it. Contrary to KDE, the keyboard/mouse work very nicely.
