So far I haven't used it much (but I note that gvolwheel has always been occasionally temperamental (maybe a race somewhere, perhaps on the kernel side because it maybe failed consistently on the boots where it did fail).
Gvolwheel never worked on my newest machine - the one where HDMI is the default card 0 and I have to specify card 1 in .asoundrc fr analogue output (i.e. gvolwheel runs but slider doesn't alter the audible volume). I'm now on that machine and pnmixer seems to work ok. So, many thanks for that. The scrollwheel doesn't seem to do anything, but that doesn't matter.
