Hi Dan,

I don't know if you caught my other post a couple of days ago but, if you
are talking about the start menu that you open using the windows key, these
are not programs but, shortcuts to the programs. Below are steps on how to
put your shortcuts back into the start menu.

Normally the items in the start menu are not programs but, shortcuts to the
programs.  If you want to put the shortcuts back try the following;

1. Go to the start menu folder in My Computer / Local Disk C / Documents &
Settings / Your
Name folder / Start Menu.
2. Find the Programs folder & press enter.
3. Highlight the program you would like to create a start menu shortcut for.
With the program highlighted press the applications / context menu key.
4. Arrow down to, Send To, & press enter or, just the letter, N, after
opening the context menu.
5. With context menu / Send to open, arrow down to desktop create shortcut &
press enter.
6. Now go to the shortcut you have on your desktop. If you have to rename
it, with the shortcut highlighted, press the F2 key, this will open an edit
field so you can alter / change the name, & press enter to save your changes
& close the edit field.
7. With the shortcut highlighted, press the applications key, press the
letter, N, for, Send to, arrow down to start menu, & press enter. The
shortcut will be in your start menu & you can delete the shortcut from the
desktop.
8. After you get all the things added to your start menu you want to add,
press the windows key to open the start menu, press the applications key,
arrow up to sort by name, & press enter. This arranges everything except
folders in alphabetical order. The folders will be at the top & shortcuts
will be below the folders.

Hope this helps. Take care.
Mike

  Hi Dan,

and last try if you will please.
  1. Go to start menu and than select "run"
  2. On the combobox type %userprofile% that is the environment variable
that
will guide you to your home folder in "documents and settings"
  3. Here select the "start menu" folder
  4. And here select the "programs" folder.

Now you see the structure of your "programs" submenu displayed by explorer
in a folder and file way where the folders are submenus and the files the
shortcuts to your programs. If you have not find the desired programs
here,
that means that they are really gone.

To make sure you see the entire content of your "programs" folder I'd
advice
that you temporarely unhide your hidden folders so you miss nothing. In
case
you don't know how it is done please say it and I will write it in a
  seperate email.

  Kind regards,
  Nikolay
